Independent mayoral candidate Brady Dyer has today unveiled his 30-point plan to create a Lower Hutt that does the basics better, boosts businesses, and builds stronger communities.
A Crucial Time for Lower Hutt
“This is a crucial time for Lower Hutt. Our city is facing some big challenges, and I’m the candidate with the right mix of experience and the bold, innovative thinking needed to take us in the right direction,” Dyer says.
With six years on council and 20 years running local businesses, Brady knows what it takes to make the tough calls, bring people together, and get things done.
“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved for our city as a councillor. But there’s so much more to do, and I know there is a better way to do it.”
A Vision for the Future
Brady’s plan outlines 30 clear actions designed to shape a city that future generations will thank us for.
“As your Mayor, I’ll ensure the council delivers great core services while keeping rates increases affordable. This includes initiating a line-by-line review of the budget to ensure every ratepayer’s dollar is spent wisely and delivers real value. I’ll also launch a live, public budget dashboard so people can see exactly where money goes and track progress on key projects.”
The plan also includes a ‘fix the basics’ programme to tackle the essentials: potholes, streetlights, footpaths, and other core services that make a daily difference.
Backing Local Businesses
Lower Hutt businesses have a well-earned reputation for punching above their weight. But many are doing it tough right now.
“With your support, I’ll make sure we back local industries with policies like a Buy Local, Build Local, Hire Local procurement policy that prioritises local businesses for all council contracts. I’ll also look to set up a dedicated Business Incubator & Accelerator to provide a space for innovative manufacturing, construction, and tech start-ups.”
Building Stronger Communities
Brady is proud to be part of one of the most diverse cities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
“I want to see us celebrating and creating vibrant, connected communities. That’s why my plan includes establishing a new Neighbourhood Renewal Fund with microgrants to support grassroots projects like street parties, clean-ups, plantings, and murals.”
The plan also focuses on improving the way council engages with the community.
“It’s vital that people feel truly informed, heard, and part of every decision. I’ll keep improving engagement, increase openness and transparency, and hold citizen assemblies for the big issues.”
