It was awesome to hear that four exceptional students from Naenae Intermediate School have been selected to represent Wellington at the National Finals in Future Problem Solving. These young talents, Ava Cvetkovic, Adele Tonks, Eden Jeffery, and Riley Foden, are the only team from our region to earn this honour, and they couldn’t be more deserving.

A Platform for Young Innovators

The National Finals, which will run from October 27th to 29th in Auckland, will feature participants in various categories: Global Issues Problem Solving teams, Community Problem Solving teams, Scenario Writers, and Scenario Performers. The aim? To earn the right to represent New Zealand at the 2024 International Finals at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, USA.

More Than Just a Competition

What sets Future Problem Solving apart is its long-term impact on participants. Research indicates that many students who have been part of this programme have gone on to achieve high academic honours or become young leaders in diverse fields. The programme instills creative, critical, and ethical thinking skills, preparing students to tackle some of the world’s most significant challenges.

The Skillset of Tomorrow’s Leaders

One of the most compelling aspects of the programme is the skillset it nurtures in young minds. Participants are taught a six-step process that enables them to think both critically and creatively about global issues. This process ultimately culminates in an Action Plan designed to address challenges in provided scenarios. It’s clear that the framework of this programme is producing the young leaders of tomorrow.

Jetting Off to Showcase Dramatic Skills

At the National Finals, our students will not only present their Action Plans but will also have the opportunity to act them out in front of an audience. Our team from Naenae Intermediate is eagerly looking forward to demonstrating their dramatic skills in Auckland this weekend.

Congratulations to Ava, Adele, Eden, and Riley for this remarkable achievement and eagerly await their performance at the National Finals.
